Read the story: Thai science-park staff learned to coach research ventures, then delivered training across Thailand
Who: Chiang Mai University’s Science and Technology Park (STeP) and Mae Fah Luang University’s MFii, in a programme funded through the British Council under the UK’s International Science Partnerships Fund.
- The challenge
- Thai researchers had strong technical skills but needed an entrepreneurial mindset, and the science parks needed their own staff to carry commercialisation on after CBIT left.
- What CBIT did
- In late 2025 CBIT ran a five-day hybrid programme, online and at Chiang Mai Science Park. Science-park staff shadowed research teams in a technology-transfer role, then scored the researchers’ pitches and compared their scores with CBIT’s.
- What happened
- The trainers came to NTU in February 2026, then delivered sessions with CBIT across Thailand. The British Council extended the grant, citing the sessions’ expanded scope and reach.
- Where it can lead
- In Thailand the next steps were a national AI skills programme and a sister centre.
